sunday is wonderous

mainly because of the not having to go to work thing: an idea that I am fully in favor of. Because most likely I will be working late every day this coming week, because my boss and owner of the shop is going on vacation, leaving me and the one other employee (D. the Delivery guy,) to work the whole damn store. And when D. is out on deliveries... it is just me. so nine AM till 7PM every night for this coming week. I want a raise already.

no, seroiusly.

On the plus side I did many crafty things today. and went goodwilling. and ate good food. And hung out with james. but god working sucks. Is there anyone in our circle of freinds that actually has a job that they like, or at least don't loathe? or is this the way of the world? am I doomed to forever work a job I hate for too little money and long hours and waste my whole life like that?

Damn it. I'll become a stripper first. Then I will work less for more money. Reverend Smith, are you with me? we could have some sort of duo...

I on the other hand, did work today, from 12 to 8pm, with a 30-minutes non-paid dinner break. Then I brought home by bi-monthly paycheck of $150.

I'm all for stripping right about now.

Me Too.

I am all up for your stripping right about now too.

:)

But if I'm stripping right now, how would you know?

Disturbance in the force? ;-)

I like my job, but it remains to be seen if it likes me. This past week I didn't do so hot.

umm...i/m not quite sure how I personally fit into those lofty business strategies...normally, i/d assume that my role in such a situation (aside from the fact that i/ve never actually been to a "titty" bar, to use the parlance of our times) would be to just sit there with a martini with a pile of two-dollar bills in reach (the two-dollar bill to the strip joint idea had in mind the potential to simply wave said monetary denomination in the air whilst proclaiming that "this one/s worth twice as much!"...b/c i/m an asshole.) aside from that brief & tedious aside, it is my official party line to never once expose my unappetizing person in public situations. for the good of humanity.

although, here/s another story (i like stories, or used to). i once applied to work at Pleasures, as a clerk. i promptly gave up that idea once i was informed that my job duties would include mopping up the fucking booths. yuck.

i SHOULD like my job. i really should. but i don/t. i don/t know why. i think that this/ll be the way it is until i a) get into grad school, or 2) simply get out of florida.

simply get out of florida

Work sucks globally. Trust me. I had to come all the way to Florida before I realized the shit rolls downhill.

i suppose that i/m well-aware of that...my need/desire to relocate out of this state has more than just work at the bottom of it.

Now that I understand.

I found my career by accident; when I was 18, my sister got me a job as a file clerk at the law firm she worked for.

When the receptionist quit suddenly, I was trained for her job; when a legal secretary quit a few months after that, I was trained for her job. And the rest, as they say, is history, since I've been doing this now for 17 years.

And the thing is, I like it. I love the law, and I love playing with words. I'm very, very good at my job. There have been times that I hated the place I was working, but I've still always loved the work. Now of course I'm at the Awesome Law Firm of Awesomeness, and that rocks, but for me it's always been the work itself that makes me happy.

So to answer your question, it's not necessarily the way of the world that one must hate their job, but the job you like may not be the one you think you'll like. I thought I'd be a high school art teacher, and I don't doubt that I would have been good at that job too, but this is where I ended up, and I'm pretty happy with it.

Did you know St. Claire of Assisi is the Catholic Patron Saint of Television?

"On February 17, 1958, Pope Pius XII designated her as the patron saint of television, on the basis that, when she was too ill to attend a Mass, she had been miraculously able to see and hear it on the wall of her room."
