What the FUCK happened while I was attempting to get Ftish ball off the ground? Did I slip dimensions to where all the Rebulicans think about when they jerk off?

Supreme Court backs "partial birth" abortion ban. Justice Kennedy says that it is a "step forward for women, who might have this proceedure proformed on them with out knowing what it entails, or who might later regret it." Well heck, Justice Kennedy, I regret agreeing to run Fetish ball sometimes, but you don't see any legal measure designed to keep me from doing other things I might "regret", do you?

And then, I'm reading Dan Savage's Blog, to find this lovely youtube extravaganza of John McCain, presidentail hopeful, JOKING about bombing Iran. To the tune of a beach boy's song, no less.

(scroll down a bit.) WHAT THE FUCK?

where did I put that reality tuner? James? Can I borrow your watch? Taco Bell, anyone? Stop the World, I want a different one.

Don't give them ideas.

If you make the suggestion, I am sure they will be happy to make legislation to keep you from making other decisions. The problem with free will is that most people don't actually want to deal with the outcome of their decision, if they don't happen to like it. If you make a hard decision and then decide you were wrong, well, you are fucked. You can get in the same situation, so that you can make the right decision the second time, but you can't actually "Do Over." The other problem with free will is that you can decide to hamper the free will of others. This is where "Pro-Life" interferes with my philosophy. I believe in letting people make decisions. I also believe in letting them make mistakes even if I know better. I even believe in letting people make mistakes that I believe will crush their souls. Because I believe in free will, because damn it, somebody has to.
My concession to "Pro-Life" would not be the token banning of a single proceedure. I would give them a chapter n the sexual education classes (as long as some other chapters were added as well. 1) Teach what sex is, and why it happens. (Rather than "This is a penis and this is a vagine. If you put the two together outside of marriage you will get an STD and die.") 2) Teach the actual difficulties with abortions (Psychological regret, etc. with numbers, rather than "You will never be loved by anyone ever again. And God hates you, too, so you can't be forgiven.")

I can't actually judge the McCain quote, because it is obviously pulled out of context. I give the film and republicans credit, it looks like he went on to make an ass of himself, but the only ass I can be sure of in the video is the man asking the question. The question was phrased in a manner with a pre-supposed "We must bomb Iran" built into it. If McCain wanted to answer that he didn't want to bomb Iran, he would have to cancel that energy, and his joke would work as a good transition. If I were making the same mistake McCain did, but saying what I would say "You know that old song by the beach boys . . . Well, I have heard it playing in Washington an aweful lot, and it is getting tired. We certainly need to send a message, but we have spent enough on bombs this year to fund . . . blah blah blah. Fiscally conservative and peaceful ideals inserted here." Politicians are trained to try not to say things that can be pulled from context so easily, but it happens. That is what happened with Gore and his "I invented the internet" scandal that upset so many.

Wow. This is an upsetting phenomenological shift.

Even more upsetting, it is pretty much symptomatic of where our administration has been going these days. Roe v. Wade was originally established as an extension of a perceived right to privacy, not "right to choose," and what does the current administration love to do more than demolish privacy?
