A Poetry Meme:

Do you recreationally read poetry?
--Yeah, sometimes, if I stumble across something interesting. I like funny poetry, silly haikus, and emotional poetry. I'm very fond of things involving the pastorale, love, and sensory input.

By whom?
--I like Ogden Nash's stuff. It amuses me.

Have you academically read poetry?
--Yeah.

When, and did you enjoy it?
--Pretty much throughout high school, and I didn't for the most part, because having to pick it apart made it less emotional and more mechanical. Also, a lot of the poetry we went over just didn't appeal to me.

Were you forced to memorize poetry in school?
--Yeah. Short things like Nothing Gold Can Stay.

Did you memeorize poetry for your own amusement?
--I did at some point, but it's gone now. ^^;

Do you still remember any of it?
--Not really.

Do you quote poetry often in normal conversation?
--No, but sometimes I like to wax poetic, so to speak.

If poetry were a skill in a roleplaying system, what level would you have in it? (system and level, please)
--If it was in D&D, I'd probably have between a 2 and a 4, with +2 synergies from writing and +2 synergies from emotional creativity, since I have at least five ranks in those. So, 4-6 total. In Exalted, I'd have Zenith Caste Poetry 2.

Do you write poetry?
--Sometimes.

Do you think it is any good?
--Yeah. I like it more when I'm writing it than when I go back to look at it later. My opinion towards it tends to sway back and forth a bit.

Do you show it to anyone?
--Hardly ever. I'm really private about it.

Have you had poetry published?
--No.

Were you paid for it?
--N/A.

Has someone ever given you a love poem? Did they write it?
--Yeah, but they were joking. It was random, and they wrote it.

Have you ever given someone a love poem? Did you write it?
--Yeah, but I was joking also. It was random; I wrote it. My few and far between love poems actually addressed to people... never make it to them.

Can you name four different forms of poetry?
--Haiku, sonnet, epic... ode?

Can you define an anapest?
--Nah, it's one of those syllable accent forms.

Have you taken a poetry class with Mac Miller?
--No, can't say I have.

Do you recreationaly read poetry?
Sometimes.

By whom?
Shakespeare, Margaret Atwood, Sappho, my friends, T. S. Eliot when mad,
e. e. cummings when more mad, and people who get published in magazines that I would also like to be published in (hangs head in shame).

Have you acedemically read poetry?
Heck yes.

When, and did you enjoy it?
Every grade and every Language Arts / English / Reading class that I can remember. More in college. And yes.

Were you forced to memorize poetry in school?
Yes.

Did you memeorize poetry for your own amusement?
Yes. I have also occasionally memorized poems on accident.

Do you still remember any of it?
Yes.

Do you quote poetry often in normal conversation?
Yes, but I quote Buffy and random fantasy novels more.

If poetry were a skill in a roleplaying system, what level would you have in it? (system and level, please)
I do not know enough about roleplaying systems to answer this question properly. I am probably a level 4/5 high court elven bard somewhere, though.

Do you write poetry?
Yes.

Do you think it is any good?
Yes. Frequently. (It's that durned Elvish pride.)

Do you show it to anyone?
Yes.

Have you had poetry published?
Yes.

Were you paid for it?
No.

Has someone ever given you a love poem? Did they write it?
Yes and yes. Two people. One in middle school and one in college.

Have you ever given someone a love poem? Did you write it?
Yes and yes.

Can you name four different forms of poetry?
Yes, I can.

Can you define an anapest?
Yes. I can also define a dactyl and a trochee. And a spondee. Seriously, I will someday throw scansion parties.

Have you taken a poetry class with Mac Miller?
Yes. many. I have also TA'd for a poetry class with Mac Miller, as has Shadowedge.

Well, I still think that "rejection letter origami" is the best writing-related poetry theme ever, so maybe the scansion party will have to wait for a bit. Seriously, who could resist softening the blow of "It just wasn't right for us at this time" by turning it into cute little hoppy paper froggies.

Then, there could be an origami frog race.
