More Project Lit. Lust behind the cut...

"The Nanny Dairies" by Emma Mclaughlin and Nicola Kraus

Why I picked it:
I had seen the movie trailer the previous week, and had been intrigued. Also, it has a nifty cover.

What I thought:
Amazingly funny, and well written. I empathized a great deal with the main character, since I too have spent quite a bit of time taking care of children that were not mine. This is wonderful read on the perils of being a nanny, as well as a look at economic, racial, and gender privilege, wrapped in the snug fit of satire mixed with a love story. '

I am now a little nervous about the movie: there is no way it could be as good as the book. Highly recommended.

"Good in Bed" by Jennifer Weiner

Why I picked it:
The title caught my eye, and the first page, a first person narrative of finding out that one's ex-boyfriend has written about you in a national magazine with the article title of "Good in Bed." I mean, how could I resist?

What I thought:

An amazing book. I laughed and cried, and stayed up far to late two nights in a row to read this book. It is not a romance (although there is a love story), and not a coming of age story, and not humor, (although it is funny, with its deft use of stereotypes: successful but unsatisfied main character, wastrel pothead boyfriend, lesbian mother,); I define it by what it is not because it is so hard to describe.
I cannot recommend too little.
